Anugerah Round 2 – Female Anugerettes ditulis oleh Gumbira 6 Komen

The TV Theatre rocked like a huge concert with the fans were screaming for their Female Anugerettes. The atmosphere was toned down a huge notch when we had to witness the elimination of 2 Male Anugerettes this week.

It was a huge upset that Ize Suliman was eliminated together with Izam. There was a huge bout of whispers that people had expected Kamsani to be eliminated instead of Ize. But then again, voting plays a huge part in their luck to stay in the game. Here’s the voting chart for the Male Anugerettes:
- Hydir Idris
- Wawan
- Chirul
- Azhar Raz
- Sein
- Kamsani Jumahat

Singing Azyzah’s Pengharapan Ini, Nora looks nervous on TV being the first Female Anugerette for the night. Her notes seem to fall flat when reviewed on TV. However, Judge Ann Hussein loved Nora’s singing, except that she has to lessen the anger expression while singing. Judge Eddy Ali praised Nora for beautifying the original song and singing the song without flaws.

Yanie started off hitting the right notes, and sound effortless singing the difficult song by Nurun Nuwarrah – Kau Ingin Ku Miliki. A good song choice, quoted off Judge Ann Hussein, although she thought Yanie was chasing after the tempo and need to relax. Judge Eddy Ali agreed with Ann and noted that Yanie needs to control her breathing and improvise on her facial expression. Reviewing at home, Yanie did look comfortable throughout her performance on TV.

We thought Asilah Osmera was trying to emulate Eka Mairina when she sang the latter’s Sesungguhnya Cinta. Judge Gani Karim liked Asilah’s harmonious voice but Judge Hassan Salleh pointed out a flawed pitching during the song. Asilah has the potential to do better.

The “cili padi” of the Anugerettes, Hafizah Naser could have chosen a better song. She went flat a number of times singing Bila Rindu by Fuad Rahman & Mira. Although Hafizah put up a good performance, Judge Gani cautioned her on the pitch of some notes. Quoting Judge Hassan, that although Hafizah has a unique voice but need to improve in her vocal control.

From the TV series, Jeritan Sepi, Nurun Nuwarrah’s Bila Kasih Menyepi was Nani’s choice. Started off strong and steady, Nani seemed to falter in the middle of the song; which Judge Eddy Ali agreed though he noted it was a good performance. Judge Hassan Salleh remarked that Nani and Catty set the benchmark for the night.

Although Catty whom Judge Hassan remarked have set more edge on the benchmark, also singing a TV theme song (Cinta Q’s Cipta Kasih by Eka Mairina), we felt she could have done better. Perhaps, it was because she hasn’t recovered fully. Her soulful voice was clearly distinct from the rest who had performed that night. Judge Eddy Ali would love to see Catty (if given a step further in Anugerah) perform a more up-tempo song as she can easily nail the ballads/slow songs.

The 2nd half of the show saw the ladies upping their ante. Surprising the audience, Kunjung did a very catchy rendition of Irama Rindu (by Salma). She was by far the most comfortable Anugrette on stage. “You surprise me today,” Judge Ann Hussein who was clearly pleased by Kunjung’s performance. Judge Gani Karim noted that a jazz number wasn’t easy to perform but Kunjung took the song in her own style, “You are the show woman for this whole show”.

Keeping up with Kunjung’s high-energy performance, Sarah Aqilah sang Lafaz by Nana almost like a pro. Although there was a little trace of Ziana Zain in her vocals, she did perform comfortably as well. Judge Gani Karim, gave Sarah the title “Power Balladeer” while Judge Ann Hussein glorified Sarah as the best vocal as she hit the high notes effortlessly.

The group performances were powerful especially when Nora, Yanie, Asilah and Hafizah took on Maiya Rahman’s Nongkrong. Their coordination and synergy were definitely great. For us it was Yanie who stood out with her dancing, not effecting her singing at all. But Judge Hassan Salleh picked out Asilah & Hafizah instead. Judge Ann Hussein preferred Group A although it seems Yanie wasn’t much favoured as the rest.

With their solo performances still leaving impact, Sarah and Kunjung continued to wow the judges with their group performance with Catty and Nani. Group B performed Norazela Rosli’s Cinta Amnesia. Judge Hassan Salleh singled out Sarah & Kunjung as the entertainer of the group. Judge Eddy Ali chose Group B over Group A as their performance was “menjeng and menggoda” – sensual & seductive!

This week, the ladies definitely put themselves a notch higher than the gentlemen. Their performances were way distinctive. The men has to work on more next week to prove they still have it. It will be hard to vote your choice of ladies to keep in the game. But choose wisely! Voting lines are opened for the ladies all the way through next week, 30th June at 6pm!

G! Juice ditulis oleh Gumbira 2 Komen
The Truth About Ize Suliman & Hairani Hassan (Yanie)’s Albums!
Well, well, before we know it, the comments were overwhelming us in our post for the Male Anugerettes. We’ve been seeing a whole load of comments about Hairani Hassan and Ize Suliman.
So in our own quest to find out the truth, here’s our G! Juice:
1. Hairani Hassan (Yanie)
It is just fortunate (or unfortunate?) that Anugerette Hairani Hassan (also known as Yanie) share almost the same name with Hariani Hassan Bakri. Although they are born almost 2 weeks apart, there shouldn’t be any more confusion between these two ladies.
So people, STOP CONFUSING them.
Hariani Hassan Bakri came in 3rd for the Women’s category in the competition Bintang Klasik Nusantara in 2007 (which Elfie Ismail won the Men’s category).
So there you have it. Give Yanie her deserving chance and stop bad-mouthing her!
2. Idris Suliman (Ize)
This boy has been given the heat right from when the auditions’ photos were put up in our Facebook group. All talk that he’s recorded an album and was part of Karisma got ourselves wriggling like a worm on heat (ok that doesn’t sound right from our direct Malay translation of cacing kepanasan! haha!).
We had an exclusive interview with him and found out….
Yes, he was a part of Karisma and yes, Karisma had an album BUT the album was made in 2001 with original members, Iman (Ross Revalina) and Nazarul (Naza Revalina). Ize only joined the group in 2004 replacing Naza – AFTER the album was made.
Thus, it doesn’t qualify Ize to have an album with Karisma as he wasn’t even involved in the making of the album!
That’s all for G! Juice (Gumbira’s rendition of E! News So True So False! hahaha)! Till the next time, enjoy some juice with G!

Anugerah Round 2 – Male Anugerettes ditulis oleh Gumbira 56 Komen
This week, the show started with the introduction of the 8 male Anugerettes. The theme for this Round is “Rentak Kita” where the Anugerettes are required to sing local songs. Noting also from the previous week’s show, the top 3 males, according to the combined score are as follows:
1. Wawan
2. Chirul
3. Ize Suliman

Wawan, with the highest score, was given the chance to choose his group mates for the group performance this week. He chose Kamsani Jumahat, Ize Suliman and Azhar Raz. Thus, his group performed the first half of the show.

Kamsani came out with a bang, singing Cintaku (by Merah). His confidence and stage presence were carried out well throughout his energetic performance. While his voice was heard all powerful at the TV Theatre, some notes were not hit well when reviewed on TV. Judge Ann Hussein liked his energetic peformance but noted that his facial expression was cramped. Judge Gani Karim thought that Kamsani wasn’t energetic enough for the song, Cintaku.

As if being allowed to be overshadowed by Kamsani’s performance, Ize Suliman emerged looking nervous this week. Noted by Judge Ann Hussein, it seemed as if Ize didn’t hear the tune and was rushing after the tempo of Kau Bintang Ku (by Jaliboy). We agreed with Judge Ann Hussein that Ize did pick himself up mid-song, showing off his clear melodious voice which Judge Gani Karim favoured. We noted that his articulation has improved.

When we were told that Wawan was going to sing Kasih Mengapa (by Rauzan Rahman), we were quite worried how he’d sing the rap parts of the song. Wawan, however, surprised us with his own rendition of the song. While Judge Eddy Ali praised Wawan for deserving the top spot, he remarked on Wawan’s articulation. Guest Judge Hassan Salleh disagreed as he felt Wawan’s voice was faltering, although he expressed the feel of the song well. We didn’t want to agree with Judge Hassan Salleh while we were at the TV Theatre, but after reviewing the show on TV, Wawan did fall flat a couple of times. We also feel that Wawan could do away emulating his idol, Man Toyak.

Keeping up with his steady performance, Azhar Raz was seen to be the most comfortable on stage belting out Adakah Mungkin (by Iskandar Ismail). His vocal control was surprisingly great during some difficult notes of the song. Judge Eddy Ali complimented Azhar saying he was the best so far this week. However he needs more interaction with the camera, engaging the audience watching from home to garner their votes. Judge Hassan Salleh applauded Azhar’s good perforance and felt that he did captivate the audience.

Chirul, ranked 2nd male favourite from last week, sang Selalu (by Fauzie Laily) nonchalantly. He seemed to be too comfortable or rather, as the disappointed Judge Eddy Ali noted Chirul’s performance was due to lack of practice. Judge Gani Karim agreed that Chirul needs to practise more though commended that he has the most male voice of the group.

Singing a fast “rockish” Andai (by Merah), was Izam who seemed to be having a good time on stage. Judge Gani Karim took notice of Izam’s improvement from last week. Judge Eddy Ali however disagreed as he noted Izam was “chasing” the chorus and his whole performance was rather lacklustre.

Sein Ahmad who brought Zaibaktian’s Lelaki Baru without much gusto could easily be drowned by the other guys who had already performed that night. It was hard to hear his vocal power with his entourage screaming out for him at the TV Theatre. However, back home on TV, his voice was flat out and much like Judge Ann Hussein mentioned, his pitching was off a number of times. Nonetheless, she applauded Sein for smiling more and looking more comfortable on stage this week.

The birthday boy didn’t emerge out of the huge gift box, instead Hydir Idris flaunted his deep vocals singing Nyala (by Aliff Aziz). Looking more assured of his stage presence, he awed not only his entourage but others including the judges. “The small boy with a huge voice” could simply be his title for this season of Anugerah. Judge Ann Hussein exclaimed “WONDERFUL!” and Judge Hassan Salleh thought Hydir was the best that night. We concurred with the judges’ views, however after reviewing his performance, Hydir could go easy with the waves at the end of his notes (is it called verbratto?).

As for the group performances, Group A (consisting of Kamsani, Ize, Wawan & Azhar) had a good group synergy, was favoured by the judges and dubbed the best group. Guest Judge Hassan Salleh singled out Kamsani & Azhar for their steady performance while he thought Wawan was outstanding.

Group B performance seemed lack of practise and there wasn’t chemistry among the members; Sein, Izam, Chirul & Hydir. However, Hydir stood out from the rest as he was seen to have improved, executing his steps well. Judge Eddy Ali saluted Sein that although he was rigid in his dance steps, he tried his best to keep up.
Voting lines are still opened and will only be closed on 23rd June at 6pm. Vote for the deserving ones and vote wisely!

Anugerah Round 1 ditulis oleh Gumbira 4 Komen
Anugerah 2009 kick-started with Hyrul Anuar, Aliff Aziz & Eka Mairina performing the theme song, Bintang Anugerah Ku. With an all-white ensemble, the 3 Anugerah champions belted out the song with much gutso. Towards the end of the song, all 20 Anugerettes started to fill up the background, also dressed in white.
The Resident Judges for Anugerah 2009 are Ann Hussein, Eddy Ali & Gani Karim. The Guest Judge for Episode 1 was Adil Hussein.
Following a known format in Anugerah, the 20 Anugerettes were divided into groups of 4. Here was how they were grouped.

Group A: Returning from Anugerah 2007, Judge Eddy Ali thought that Sein wasn’t on par with the rest of the group members, although he is the current “hot stuff” (from the screams in the theatre). Judge Gani Karim liked the showmanship coming from Sarah & Mel. While Gumbira thought the guys were a lil flat out and Mel, although appeared nonchalant (perhaps it was her way to hide her nervousness), made a vast improvement from the audition rounds.

Group B: Individually, the members of Group B seem to have been a little shaky at hitting the high notes. Judge Ann Hussein commended of Wawan’s great performance and Azhar’s performance which was filled with emotions. She warned Hafizah on the high notes while Kunjung has been constantly good. Gumbira took notice of Wawan’s almost impeccable performance.

Group C: While Shera didn’t seem able to hide her nervousness, Ize (pronounced “is”) was full of confidence. Judge Eddy Ali thought Shera could have done more with the Jaclyn Victor number and that the ladies were lacking the “oomph”. Group performance wasn’t too gelling. Ize, also a familiar face from Anugerah 2007, could easily be the next “hot stuff” with Judge Ann Hussein favouring his performance. However, Gumbira feels that Ize could loose all of the little slang left on his tongue.

Group D: Another Anugerah 2007 return, Izam didn’t waste any time to make an impact. His stage presence was strong and pitching wasn’t off even for a bit. As if taking cue of hitting all the right notes from her group member, Catty (who looked different from during the auditions!) showed off her clear strong voice. Like Judge Gani Karim, Gumbira too love Catty from the auditions. Showing better stage presence and confidence, Catty impressed the audience. Ain and Yanie seemed to be overshadowed by their group members when both, went off during their individual performances. Nonetheless, Group D team effort was so better than some of the earlier Groups.

Group E: He seemed to be having a stronger audience support than Sein did, but Chirul hit the wrong notes. Quoting Judge Eddy Ali, “Falsetto – FALSE!”. Nani’s performance was forgettable with the lack of stage presence and expression. Kamsani kept up his performance from the auditions and was perhaps the only one who looked comfortable to be on stage. According to Judge Eddy Ali, Nora stood out above the rest of her team members.
Overall, in our humble opinion, the ladies out-shined the lads in this episode. During the show (via real-time updates at http://twitter.com/GumbiraSG), we cited our hot favourites: Mel, Sein, Wawan, Kunjung, Ize, Asila, Catty, Izam & Nora.
After about an hour of break, the Result show (Episode 2 of Anugerah 2009) went on LIVE at 10.30pm. Rancour, the champion of Anugerah Band ‘08 performed their latest single, Biarlah.
Gumbira was suddenly nervous for the Anugerettes during the Result Show. As the hosts, Fauzie & Fiza, announced the names who are in, one by one, we could feel our stomachs squeezing. One after excruciating another, each name was revealed to us. Say good bye and better luck next time to the eliminated 4 of Round 1:

The top 7 Anugerettes (according to SMS votes) for Round 1 are:
- Catty
- Wawan
- Chirul
- Nora
- Kunjung
- Ize Suliman
- Sarah Aqilah
